Ever since I can remember, I have wanted to be a missionary. I graduated from high school and started nursing school soon after. That kept me busy for a couple of years, but even then I kept clippings and articles about potential ministries to serve with.

I didn’t hear about the World Race until last year when my cousin, whom serves as a Missionary in Africa, mentioned the WR in her newsletter. She was so excited about them, that I decided to check out this ministry. At first, I thought “wow, that sounds cool,” but soon got so busy with work/life, that the WR took a back burner.

In December 2012, I was evaluating my life, and trying to decide what my goals where for the New Year. Well, missions came up again. I was considering a couple different ministries, but for one reason or another, the other ministries didn’t work out. So, I set up a profile with Adventures in Missions (AIM), just to kinda check it out. The next day I received a call from AIM asking me about my interest in the WR. They answered my questions, and then I decided to pray and talk with my parents about it. Soon after, I applied and was accepted.

Why do I want to be a missionary?

I want to

  • serve others
  • love the unlovable
  • cry with the broken-hearted and to comfort those who weep
  • rescue prisoners
  • spread the Love of God
  • bring hope and healing

Isaiah 61:1-2 says it better that I ever could:

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord had anointed me to preach the good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn."

Why the World Race:

There were several things that attracted me to the WR.

  • Adventure! If you check out the different blogs, you can gain a glimpse of the different journeys the Lord is taking the Racers on. They might be ministering to orphans in India, or hosting medical clinics in Mozambique, or maybe running a VBS in Nicaragua. And that’s just a couple of possibilities!

  • I like the fact that WR is a close community. It’s going to help my teammates and I to get to know each other real fast. The good, the bad, and the ugly. We will learn to work together and to love each other, inspite of ourselves.

  • I reaaally like the fact that we’ll be going to 11 different countries. These are places that I would normally never have the chance to go to, yet places that I really would like to see.

  • My eyes will be opened. Not everyone is blessed to be born in the United States. These people have so little that even the poorest person in America, looks rich compared to them.

  • This trip is going to take me outside of my comfort zone. I will be forced to depend on God. And that’s a very good thing.
