Happy Thanksgiving! Where ever you are celebrating I hope you’ve had memorable day of celebrating family, friends and the good things God has done in your lives.

Here I am, wrapping up another month on the race. Each month has looked different and November is no exception. For me, Costa Rica has been the hardest month so far. As I mentioned in my last blog post, this has been our “Unsung Heroes” month. We’ve had no permanent contact to stay with, but have been using the month to travel Costa Rica searching for ministries to work with.

What did our Unsung Hereos month look like for my team?

1. Travel. We traipsed from one end of Costa Rica to the other. Generally we tried not to stay anywhere more then a few days before we would start traveling again. We’ve become quite adept at riding buses.

2. Hostels. We stayed at a variety of hostels. Sketchy hostels, nice hostels and everything in between, we stayed at them all. Word to future Unsung Heroes teams, make sure your hostel has a kitchen!

3. Minimal alone time. At almost every place, we were constantly surrounded by people. Welcome to life on the race!

4. New friends! One of my favorite parts of staying in hostels was all the interesting people from all over the world that I met.

5. Epic adventures! Unsung Heroes gives you more freedom as you move around to find adventure. We had the chance to go surfing, zip lining, white water rafting, climbing a volcano and soaking in hot springs.

6. A chance to deepen your trust in God. God will show His provision again and again though out the month. He provided hostels, food, contacts, adventures, and transportation for my team. Just remember to ask Him for help; everything always went so much smoother when we remembered to pray.

7. The opportunity to meet visionaries/missionaries at work in Costa Rica. It’s been neat to catch a glimpse of all the different ministries here and to meet faithful workers.

8. Community. My team is continuing learning to do life together. Through long travel days, working together, listening to each other, giving each other feedback, and praying for each other, we are learning to love each other well.

9. Beauty. I’ve seen gorgeous sunsets, lush mountainsides, and beautiful oceans. It reminds me of the Psalm where it says: The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork (Psalm 19:1)
