1. Dust everywhere! Kathmandu is probably the dusty place I’ve been on the race.

2. Wheat fields all over the countryside. Some reason I had never pictured Nepal as wheat country, but it surely is!

3. More people crammed onto a bus then I ever thought was possible. Whenever I thought there was absolutely no way to fit one more person on, somehow ten people manage to squeeze on. It was mindboggling (and slightly squashing) to witness.

4. Overgrown tuk-tuks. In almost every other country we’ve been too, there has been small tuk-tuks. In Nepal it was similar to a medium sized van with an open door in the back.

5. Vehicles honking and barreling right through stop signs. At least they use their horn to warn others that their coming!

6. Visiting the Nepal immigration office to extend visas. When we landed at the airport, we applied for the 30 day visa. Turns out we were going to be staying 31 days, hence the need to extend the visa. Thankfully the deed was accomplished in one day and we didn’t have to go back twice.

7. Going shoeless in church. Everyone leaves their shoes outside the front door.

8. Being asked if I’m Nepali. I think it’s my dark hair and eyes but any question of my nationality disappers as soon as I open my mouth. My accent is definitely American. 🙂

9. Heat. When I pictured Nepal, I pictured cool days because it is in the mountains. Wrong. Nepal’s dry season feels like summer.

10. Tea. Black tea, milk tea, lemon tea, ginger tea, masala tea, mint tea and many more. Nepali tea is amazing!
