We rode in the ambulance to the airport and went through some special entrance to get to a secluded runway. The air ambulance (a small 9 seater plane, plus room for a stretcher) sat waiting for us.
It was crazy to watch them get Katie in and out of that thing. The door was narrow and the stairs steep, but they did it somehow.
I don’t really remember the flight. I passed out and slept hard for the whole hour and a half or however long that flight was. It was the best sleep I’d gotten in days.
They quickly moved us from the plane to an ambulance and before we knew it, we had arrived in the ER of a very nice international hospital.
Doctors and nurses came and went. More paperwork was filled out and questions asked. She would need to go in for a procedure that night to clean out the wound and allow the doctors to really see what was going on with it. They had seen pictures from the last procedure in Cambodia, but needed to see everything first hand.
Katie went into the OR yet again while I busied myself with finding dinner and then resting in the room.
That procedure was about 10 days ago.
Since then, Katie and I have just been living here at the hospital in Bangkok while she recovers a bit and we figure out how to get her home. Thankfully, everyone in the AIM office is amazing and has helped us tremendously with everything from the very beginning.
The most recent procedure was a skin graft to cover her wound. We’re hoping that as the graft heals, she’ll be fit to fly soon so she can recover at home with her family.
Prayers for a speedy recovery here in the hospital would be much appreciated! And continued prayers that recovery at home would also be quick so she can hopefully join us back on the field someday would be wonderful too
These last two blogs were just a chance for me to show you a glimpse of what the past couple weeks have looked like. There will be a Hospital Life Pt. 3 coming soon! It will be a chance for me to explain what God has been teaching me while living in the hospital and being separated from the rest of my squad.
