Month five – South Africa.

Did you know:
In 100 days Cape Town, SA will be out of water in their reservoir? they call it “Day Zero”
That because of this people in Cape Town are allowed to take only 2 minute showers?
That thousands of people from all over Africa have migrated here for work opportunities and live in “squatter camps”?
That in South Africa they call BBQs Braiis?
That South Africa grows the most Rooibos tea?
That English is the most common language?
That the currency is called Rands? A 1:12 conversion to USD.
That they produce olives, wine, apples, pears, pomegranates, and hundreds other foods?
That Table Mountain at ~3,500 ft is one of the oldest mountains in the world?
That they drive on the left side of the road?

I didn’t know any of this ether until I got here. I’ll spend my time these next 2 months between Johannesburg, the capital and Pretoria, a sister city an hour away.

I had a squad leader vaca in Cape Town this past week to mark being half way through the trip but also to refresh and recenter with God. And I took my 2 minute shower. I also visited 4 out of the top 10 coffee shops in the Cape area. Hiked Table Mountain. Rented bikes. Surfed for the first time. And drove along the coast and western wine lands. It was a beautiful place to unwind. Not to mention we stayed with a wonderful South African couple who was Lucie’s moms friends Uncle. Crazy how God can connect people all over the world.

I’m excited for this next month to be serving with Impact Africa in Johannesburg. They focus on discipleship within their organization and evangelism in schools and the squatter camps. (Google “South Africa squatter camps” for more info on this)

Just wanted to send a quick update to you all! Cheers!
