Traveling back to
our town from the week of being away, Courtney and I watched a movie.
It was surreal. I
completely forgot I was in India. I was only watching the screen and would look
out the window of the van every now and then and remember.
The movie was almost
over and there was a rude awakening. Courtney remembered her purse, she searched
for it., but it was too late. It had already fallen out. Who knows where it
was, miles away from where we were.
Then it hit her, she
lost her wallet, camera, money, connectors to iPad, journals, bible, etc, Then
it hit me…
My iPod, flash
drive, and motion sickness medicine were in there.
My iPod was a gift.
I received it from a
wonderful friend at First Baptist Church before I left Statesboro in December
2011. I didn’t want to take it, but she refused to not give it to me. I had
never had an iPod before and she knew that. She was giving from the bottom of
her heart. I cried, the ugly cry you can’t help when I received the gift. It
meant so much to me she’d give that away.
And I loved that
iPod. I put my music on it and left some of hers. I got a Vera Bradley case for
it with a clip on the back so I could run with it. It was so special to me.
Here’s the thing
though. God knew exactly when I would receive that gift and he knew exactly
when it would be taken away.
And I had peace
about loosing those things. And God reminded me of a verse the next night to
share with Courtney.
Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not store
up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and
steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Although Courtney
was sad and cried about loosing what she did, and although I will miss the
things I had, we do not have our hope in them. Our hope is in Jesus Christ.
One of the first
things Courtney said after the matter was, “Well, God is going to use this
for good. Someone who reads English is going to get that Bible, it’s going to
go into the right hands and it’s going to change their life.”
We hope in Jesus,
our Lord and savior who remains faithful.
