Our day of ministry
included a two hour hike up the mountains. It was such a good hike, very
difficult, but so fun. The elevation change was fast and we were up in the
clouds in no time.
I was drenched in
sweat. I already sweat so much, having to wear pants wasn’t helping. I had the
embarassing butt sweat going on. Good thing I am with people who don’t care
because there was nothing I could do about it. We just laughed about it and
took some pictures.
We hiked to a church
for fellowship. The church is made out of mud and wood. The floor is hardened
mud and the walls are hardened mud painted white. We sat on straw mats, rested
and waited for everyone to come which took a while.
After the service,
we went to the pastors home for snack. They made us bean curry and chipoti! The
beans we think are garbanzo beans and they are never cooked all the way. The
chipoti here is not as good as India. The kind we had today was very chewy.
Either way, we were starving and snack was great!
As my dad says,
“If you wait til everyone is really hungry, the food always tastes
great!” Dads speak such truth in their wise sayings.
We were looking
forward to our hike down. It would only take an hour since we would be going
down the whole time. We started off and it began to rain. Luckily we had our
raincoats.
But, it didn’t
matter if we had them or not. For the next two hours the sky poured it’s brains
out. It was monsooning and we were hiking down rocks and mud, jumping in mud
puddles, drenched. There was no break from the down pour.
It’s crazy to think,
but that was the best part of the day. We loved the fact that we were hiking in
the rain, there was nothing we could do but to love it.
We were drenched by
the time we made it home and I had taken off my hood so my hair could get wet.
We decided to substitute the monsoon for our shower. We shampooed our hair and
washed it in the rain… perfect!
My pants are ones I
bought in Nepal and had been washed one time. However, it didn’t seem so
because the die of the green sage is now all over my legs and feet.
