Each day at Training Camp we had food from the countries
we’d be going to on our route. The first day was Asia day! And what did we have
for breakfast? Nothing better than fish head soup and I’ll tell you what, when
you’re hungry you’ll eat it. I was and I did.

That morning we learned about expectations from Bill. We
were asked two questions, “Why are you
here? What are you expecting to get out of this week and this year?” Well,
I am at training camp because God called me to The Race. This week, I expected
to learn something new. For the year, I’m still figuring that one out.
Bill explained that
you may not always realize you have expectations of something until that thing
is challenged or they weren’t met. He said, “God is more concerned with out
character than our comfort.”
And so, that’s how we are to look at The Race. We
aren’t always going to have our rights, our way, and things won’t always be
fair. But God has a better plan for me than I do for myself. I have to trust
that God has something better for me, I have to give up my expectations.

Ron Walborn, the Dean of Alliance Theological Seminary in
New York, was the main speaker for the week. This guy really rocked worlds mostly because people don’t realize the religious thoughts they have in their
“Christianity.”
Most of the things I knew, but they were so appropriate for
those who are coming into The Race with a religious mind set.
Ron believes, and
so do I, that what Jesus told his disciples to do, can and still happen.
He also talked about 2 two sets of beliefs we have; bounded set vs.
centered set.
Bounded set believes image/appearance is important and there are
rules to life.
Centered set believes that Jesus is everything, period. It
doesn’t matter what others think or do, you are free because you’re following
Jesus.
Many of us live in the bounded set and we don’t even realize
it until we are free from it. Do you?
With these Racers hearing this for the first
time, it’s a lot to process and understand. That night of worship was truly
about breaking free from those mindsets.
We had a night of grieving. He spoke
about how some of us haven’t grieved properly in our lives, sometimes for
things we didn’t even realize we needed to grieve for. I didn’t feel like I had much to grieve. God had other plans in mind for me.
