Let’s take a look at what the children of Cambodia wear in some of the hottest months of the year.

(Notice the child in the fur coat.)

Obviously in a land of no AC this makes no sense. But…when in Cambodia, live as the Cambodians do and sweat 24/7.

Apart from the heat and lack of options to get cool, my first week here in Cambodia has been rather refreshing. My team, WWJD, and I live in a rural town about 2 hours from the capital city by tuk tuk. (A 3 wheeled taxi.)

We are living at a center that ministers to drug addicted youth and points the children in this community to Jesus. The kids and teens in the area are free to come here at all hours of the day to hang out and mess around. Some of their favorite activities include, playing volleyball and dancing. We’ve also been able to go into the community and treat kids hair that have lice and teach english.

These kids are some of the most devoted Christians I have ever met. The older teens are strong in their faith and more than willing to set that example for the younger kids. They lead bible studies and youth events and fully understand what it means to trust Jesus for strength. Something I didn’t learn till later in life.

I got to talk to a girl named Pici (pronounced Pee-Sigh). She is 22 years old and is a teacher at an English school in the city. She already knows what God has called her to do and is taking steps to get there. She wanted to be a missionary but has learned that God has called her to be one right here in Cambodia. She is working with a group of people who are planting churches.

I am constantly amazed at how Jesus keeps showing me that “young” and “child” are just titles. When it comes to spiritual maturity, some of these “children” are significantly more advanced than us “adults.”

All in all, BRING IT ON SWEAT FEST!!!! If it means getting to spend time with these precious children. It is beyond worth every drop of sweat and heat inspired migraine.
