I am in CAMBODIA!
This is a few days late, but Internet connection is super limited. A little over a week ago I was sitting in an Atlanta hotel wondering how I could magically turn a 60lb pack into a 50lb pack. After 70+ hours of travel from Atlanta to Dallas to Los Angeles to China to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, we have made our way to our first month of ministry! Oh, and no, my pack never became a 50lb pack.
My team, Burning Joy, has had the unique opportunity of serving along side a first time contact, Dara. He is pretty great and spoils us beyond belief! Although we have the slightest idea of what the days agenda will look like 95% of the time, we have found comfort in his favorite mantra, “Yeah…sure, sure.” What does that mean you might ask? Who really knows, but it is his response to everything. Maybe it means ‘Yes’ or ‘No’…’maybe?’…’I don’t know’??? We just go with it and considering no one else speaks fluent English except for Dara…..going with the flow is just about our only option. But hey, that’s my kind of lifestyle!
We are serving at three different churches throughout the month; about a week at each. We have just completed our time at New Life Church Mongkolborey in a small village outside of Sisophon Town! It was amazing! The youth loved us so well and they stole all of our hearts with such ease! At New Life, we had the opportunity to meet local villagers, sit down with church family members and hear their stories, teach the village children English, hygiene, and the gospel, and play tons and tons of games!
This week we are serving with a Methodist church. So far we have taught English, played soccer with the youth, and helped the local English teacher cram study for his University Exam. My type of study session…. but, it was a nice reminder that the English language makes absolutely no sense. We have about five more days at this site before we move on to the next and final site. I would love to tell you about that one, but when we asked Dara, he replied “Yeah…sure, sure.” So there’s that.
Well that’s a quick look at our first week and a half in Cambodia!
ROUTE CHANGE
I wanted to share some exciting news with you all; there has also been a ROUTE CHANGE! All three of our Africa months have been changed. We previously were going to: Swaziland, Botswana, and South Africa. We will now serve in: UGANDA, RWANDA, & ETHIPOIA!! So here is a look at our route with all of the changes…..so far.
