When it was time to start making post-high school plans, a gap year was the LAST thing on my mind. My independent self definitely was itching for a chance to spread my wings and be on my own. I was ready for adventure. I looked and applied to several different collages. Liberty University was the one that caught my eye. I could just see and feel God’s presence on campus! After I got my acceptance I kept moving forward to make plans to go to school there. However, my parents kept suggesting a gap year. As I mentioned earlier, this was definitely the last thing on my mind. But of course, God had other things in mind. As time went on He laid the idea of a mission trip on my heart. This was something I was all over! But I mean, a year of doing mission work, who wouldn’t be all over that?! I started doing research on different mission trips, however I never found any that clicked. None of the trips lasted long enough. Even if the trip was a 3 month-long trip, that would leave me with a lot of time I was not in school or doing mission work. Since I could not find any trips, I started to give up on the whole gap year idea. One day, I was sitting in my floor, doing my make-up, and I get an Instagram notification from my friend, Libby. She sent me an ad she found for a program called “World Race Gap year.” On the 9 month trip (September- May) you go to 4 different countries and live out of your backpack the entire trip. After reading what the program entailed, I ran to my mom’s room and showed her the ad. My mom was a little taken back because she knew as well as I did that this was exactly what I had been wanting. I started my application that day and set up my interview shortly after. I could feel God’s peace with each step I took (the application, interview, etc.). When I found out I had officially been accepted, I could see how every little thing was falling into place. I am so in awe of how amazing this trip is going to be and how perfect it is. I get to fulfill the great commission while traveling around the world! I am so blessed to have this opportunity. I ask that you pray for me as I go on this journey.
