Hello! My name is Ashlyn Ohlendorf. I live Charleston, South Carolina; which has been such a wonderful place to grow up in. God has blessed me with a wonderful mother, Debbie, and a supportive sister, Jenna. I was also fortunate enough to have spent fifteen years with an incredible father who lost his life to cancer a few short years ago. I grew up in a strict Lutheran church and after deciding that, this denomination was not for me I joined a non-denominational church here in Charleston called Seacoast. This church has been a huge part in the growth of my faith and I am so thankful to have stumbled across it two years ago. I am a hostess at a local restaurant and as crazy as it may sound I do enjoy going to work. I love being outdoors and God has placed me in a location that I am able to be outside almost all year around. This is just one of the many things that I love about living in the south. Even though I was not born here, I’ve grown to call this place my hometown.
I have always had a traveler’s spirit ever since I could remember and I always knew that I wanted to help other people. When I came across the World Race Gap Year, I felt like this is what God was calling me to do. After constant prayer for six months and evaluating my options something was tugging on my heart to follow through with the Gap Year. I am beyond excited to start this journey and to spend 9 months surrounded by people that are just as jubilant about their faith as I am. As I prepare to embark on this trip, I would greatly appreciate as many prayer as possible for me and my team. Prayers are a huge part of preparation and I am blessed to have so many prayer warriors.
” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said “Here I am. Send me.”
