We finally got to your ministry site this afternoon. It only took us 4
days traveling…. it was craziness! But we made it and I am super
pumped about this ministry! We are living in our tents, but have access
to hot showers, toilets, and a kitchen. We are working with an
organization called Children of the Nations…it is a contact of
Anna’s. It is SO awesome here! There are a bunch of interns here as
well, I think around 17 of them, both from Malawi and the US, so we are
getting to spend the next two weeks working along side them! I am sooo
pumped about what this month holds for us! We are going to get to work
at a crisis nursery, spend time with widows, and go into a local
village to work with children. The lady Anna knows that is here now
(she is based in the states, and just happens to be here for a few
months) is a soccer coach at a high school in Florida. This lady is
right up my ally. 8 of us went for a couple mile jog this afternoon (I
almost died) but it was so great to get out there! I think I will have
opportunity to play a lot of soccer and play with kids a lot as well! I
am just so pumped to be here! The ride was crazy, and the Lord
protected and provided in so many ways!!!!! A window broke out of the
bus because someone threw a rock at it. Anna and Kim we right at that
window (it was a really big one on a charter bus) and we rode the rest
of the way–several hours–with no window and shattered glass
everywhere! No one was hurt at all by it though….God is good! We
crossed three borders, and none was super easy, we spent a total of 10
hours waiting at borders to get through. Our trip looked like this. We
started in Nelspruit, South Africa and had a 4 hour bus ride to
Johanesberg, South Africa. We stayed the night at a Christan Couple’s
home the houses teams like us. They served us some of the best food we
have had the entire race. We watched at least 4 movies on their big
screen TV all through the night (it was awesome). We woke up the next
morning and got on our bus–which picked us up at their house–and
headed 35 1/2 hours from there to Blantyre, Malawi. During that time is
when the three borders and broken window happened. But we also got to
watch three or four movies on the ride as well. We got into Blantyre
around 8pm, stayed at another guesthouse that was similar to the one in
Jo-berg, finally got something to eat as we had only had oranges that
entire day for food, and headed to bed. We woke up at 5 the next
morning and headed to another bus station where we got public
transportation and headed 4 1/2 hours to Lilongwe. And here we are! I
will have internet this month as we have wi-fi on the base. I don’t
know how much I will be using it though.
