10. Russian Market
Upon finding a pair of long shorts, I was told to try them on right there-in the middle of the busy market place. So I changed right there. Who needs a dressing room?
9. Tuk tuk and moto rides
After experiencing tuk tuks (a moto bike with a carriage attached to the back of it) and a moto ride, you begin to think American’s are uptight drivers
8. The hard life of a Monk
Monks can be seen anywhere any time of the day. You will be able to pick them out of a crowd by looking for the bright orange clothes they ware. And don’t worry, you will see them with cell phones, digital cameras, ipods, and riding on motorcycles. Plus, they get to go anywhere and do anything they want for free in the city.
7. Coke in a bag
What could make life just a little bit easier than getting a coke to go and having it put in a bag for you? Sometimes they literally pour the coke into the bag. Other times, they put the cut into a bag, tie it up and send you on your marry way. But they can also put this little contraption they have created under the lid of your cup that has a handle and you can carry it away much easier than those big brown things you get at McDonalds.
6. Elephant in the street
We road a tuk tuk to the riverside and passed this elephant just walking in the street with his master. It was probably the coolest thing I have seen in this country.
5. Love shove
Matt likes to be “The Man” to us women and walk on the correct side and make sure we get across the street. Apparently he thinks he needs to do that by shoving or jerking us across the street…it’s his way of showing us love.
4. Walking out into traffic without looking
Yes , you must take the plunge and just walk out into traffic or you will never get across the road. Many of the busy roads have two lanes on each side…one for cars, one for all the motos and tuk tuks.
3. Music
When you hit a restaurant in Cambodia, you will most likely hear a popular American song that was redone by an Asian singer…which means they have a high pitches chipmonk sounding voice that makes any song sound pretty bad. Not sure why they don’t leave them how they are. Your ears may bleed!
2. Medical Masks
Pollution seems to be a big deal here in Cambodia, so most of the time you will see people with medical masks on doing any every day activity. You will find them driving a moto bike with one, walking through the streets, in the grocery store, you name it, you will find someone wearing one there. Once I saw a man who had pulled his down below his chin and was smoking a cigarette. Genius.
1. Pooping, peeing, and showering all at the same time
Don’t worry, it is possible to do at the same time. The shower head is located right next to the sink, just an arm length away from the toilet. No shower curtain or tub needed. But beware of the next time you go sit on the toilet, most likely your butt will get all wet!
