Hello everyone!
My squad is now in Haiti! We have been here for a little less than a week and I can already see how much the Lord is moving here. My team of 6 girls along with 2 other all girls teams are staying at a ministry called Supply and Multiply. Supply and Multiply does many things that we are working alongside them with. One of the coolest things we are doing is working in their Matthew 25 Houses. These houses work with the elderly here in Haiti, which is something that is greatly needed. There are so many orphanages but not nearly enough care for the elderly. Supply and Multiply takes in elderly from the community who need their care. They are given medical care, beds, shelter, food and are cared for very tenderly. We have been able to meet some of them and eat lunch with them and they are radiant. If the elderly still need care but cannot leave their home situation, they receive all the benefits of living at The Matthew 25 house even though they are at their own homes. We get to visit the elderly in these situations and pray with them.
Another ministry we are working with is Gods Children of Haiti. Also called “Anne’s House”, a woman named Anne started this orphanage for children with special needs, handicaps, lost their parents in the earthquake and much more. We are going to be able to plan bible lessons for her children (18-25 children) and provide them with love, laughs, crafts and games.
On this past Thursday, we walked an hour into the mountains to share the Gospel. Going house to house with our translators, we got to tell about the redemption of Jesus and answer questions or misconceptions they had. It wasn’t our job to force them into faith, but with gentleness we got to share the good news. It is incredible how receptive the people of Haiti are to the love of Jesus. Even walking through the streets, people would stop and ask us to pray for them. Many were looking for prayers for healing, health, their children, jobs and much more. It has been such a pirvelage to see the faith that these people have in God despite their circumstances. It reminds me of Romans 8:35 “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?”
Another ministry that we are participating in is running children’s bible studies. The vision for these children’s bible studies is incredible. Alex (29 years old), was born and raised here in Haiti and runs the children’s bible study. He is so passionate and sold out to the gospel it is amazing. He wants to change the future of these children by bringing them to the Lord. Alex shared part of his testimony in that he was not walking with the lord in his teenage years – as many Haitian teenagers do not. Alex was brought back to the Lord and the Lord asked him to use his story for good. He preaches the truth to these kids and nothing but the truth. They are growing up knowing who the Lord is and who they are in Christ. They can now bring this truth into their families at home and in the future. These children are the most joyous and loving kids I have ever experienced. I feel really blessed that we can be a part of showing these children the love of Jesus.
In our last session, 60+ children showed up!
I have talked a lot about the privilege it has been to show the love of Jesus to these people – but there is another side to it. Not only are we giving love, we are receiving it. Jesus has placed parts of himself in every person and I have more to learn from all the elderly, children, pastors, ministry hosts and leaders than I could ever offer.
