So you may have seen my YouTube video of Tondo, Philippines. Well here I am to tell you about it. Before we arrived we where warned about the smell and the living conditions in Tondo aka: Trash City. So going in I was trying to mentally prepare myself for what I was about to witness. There is no proper prepare time to what I saw and smelled and felt yesterday. When I say these people have nothing I mean nothing. Children walking around in filth, naked and barefoot in literal trash. It was like nothing I thought I would ever see in my life time it was looking at a page of National Geographic. Only this time I was really there.
The houses if you can call them that where build in and around the trash. The families made money buy digging threw the trash for copper wire, plastic bottles, and glass bottles to resell. The houses had trash on top of the roofs. The girls and I where shocked, and to say there was some tears shed is an understatement. We talked last night and it was 100% unanimous we where all touched in one way or another my this place.
Despite all the negativity I speak of, the best part was that even having nothing, even living in a literal dump the smiles where contagious. The kids naked or not where so happy to see us there. We prayed with them and for them and for there families. I will Never Forget this experience.
If you want to know more about the origination helping these families please go to there Facebook page CPGCbalut.
We also went to Smokey Mt. the reason it is called that is because the people here live on top of an old mountain of trash. They use to burn the old wood to make and sell charcoal. They have been there so long that grass and trees are now growing on top of the four story mound of trash at the center of the city. The kids here do not bathe regularly. We went with the same origination to do another feeding. I was able to take pictures there. We washed the hands of the children before they where able to eat. As the men where pouring the water to clean hands, he said don’t spill any water id very expensive here. Something I would normally take for granted. Here are some pics from Smokey Mt.
