Today was a day that opened my eyes. Has we drove into the squatter camps we has a group prayed together. I felt like the Holy Spirit was telling me, “I have an appointment for you today.” I was a little anxious to be honest. Not in a negative way but in a exciting God what are you about to do kinda of way. As my team walked we prayed that we would find some one to talk to that had a shade tree in the yard. This was out of knowing what it is like to sit in direct sunlight for hours talking to some one. As we walked we stopped at a house where a young women was sitting. We asked if we could come in a talk to her. She said, “yes.” She gave of each a bucket to sit on. We started as we usually do asking questions. “Where are you from?” “How old are you?” Just general questions. Then we led into asking her what church she attended? As we spoke to her God laid it on my heart to read Jeremiah 29:11-13. I read it to her and asked if she had ever herd it before. Her response was “no.” So I asked her if she had any questions, I answered the best that I could. As I was talking another women joined into the conversation. Her name was Gift. We jumped right in with, had she ever herd of Jesus before, she responded, “yes.” So we asked, “who is Jesus to you.” She was not able to answer, so Denis out interpreter drew in the dirt a square one representing God the other representing humans. He pointed out that there was a gap between the two squares. He then drew Jesus name between them, and explained to Gift how we where separated from God because of sin. Then Jesus came and gave His life so that he could bridge the gap between man and God so that we can have a relationship with us. After this explanation she spoke in Sestho to Denis for a minute. As she spoke, her excitement made me laugh. All though I did not know what she was saying, I knew the Holy Spirit was moving. As her and Denis spoke Gift said, “this is an appointed appointment that you guys would come here today.” As she continue to speak she pointed to the tree to my left. It was an avocado tree. After she was done talking to Denis, he explained there conversation to us. We stayed there all morning talking and encouraging Gift and her friend that Jesus loved them and that God loved all of us like she loved her own children. We explained, “even when your children do something wrong it does not keep you from loving them.” We left them with the book of John, prayed for them and left. We had no agenda we where not there to lead them into the salvation prayer, we just loved on them and spoke truths into there lives. Has we where leaving we all said the same thing.”Did you notice we where sitting under an avocado tree?”
As we continued to walk down the dirt road, we where all just talking about the conversation we just had.
As we walked we came across three men on the road sitting under a tree. One man named Edwin stopped us and asked. “I saw some of you people walking through here earlier.””What are you doing here?” Denis again spoke up in English and we explained to the man what we where doing in the area and why we where walking around. Edwin had a lot of questions. I have seen people thirsty for knowledge of Jesus and not really know what they where asking. This man Edwin was parched. Edwin asked, “where can I find a church that talks about this Jesus?” We where able to get his information so Impact Africa could send him more information. As we finished up the conversation with these three men, we again stood under you guessed it, an avocado tree to pray with all three of these men. Another divine appointment made!
It was a great day. God answered even the smallest of request, “can you provide a shade tree to sit under while we talk?” He did this not once but twice. God cares so much about us he even provided something as small as a tree to talk under. As far as the people we spoke with today seeds where planted. We did exactly what God called us to do, Love our neighbors. I know in his time he will water them and soon fruit will be produced. I know with out question because that is what he promised.
As you talk to people you may not see the fruit of your conversations and time spent pouring into them. It is not for you to know. It is your job to be faithful and do as God asks and plant seeds of love where ever we go. He loves each of us, and wants to have a relationship with unbelievers way more than you. So walk in faith and trust he will do what He said He will.
Today was a blessing I met some wonderful people, and had wonderful conversations about God. And just like the avocado tree we sat under one day there will be fruit in the people we spoke to.
