Heart shaped beats- heart beats!
Hey everyone! We are on day 4 in El Salvador and Tuesday was Valentine’s day, from me to all of you, HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!
This month team Raja is in San Vicente El Salvador, a smallish town about 40 minutes from the capital. We are working with the head pastor of an Assembly of God church here in town and living in a commercial building.
All 6 of us are in sharing 5 beds, for 4 weeks, we’re on day 3, have gone through 2 five gallon water jugs, sharing 1 room with 0 windows…in 95 degree heat. There’s some El Salvadorian math for you J Last year, my friend Kellyn visited el Salvador. It was so cool to see all her pictures of people’s houses, the beach and barbequed iguanas. So far we’ve only had pork, but one can only hope! I’ll be sure to keep you all filled in.
For now, I’d like to share my passion for holidays, inherited from both my mom and my step mom. Every year for Vday my stepmom Vicki makes these elaborately deliciously cute cards. She’ll use construction paper, glue, glitter, lace, beads, candy hearts, small furry kittens, whatever she can get her hands on. My mom Debbie, will make heart shaped red colored food, and in general spoil us rotten. So, with two such loving role models is it a surprise that I go all out for holidays?
I spent about a week praying for scriptures for each of my teammates and making them each pink mailboxes with hearts all over. We set up a secret Valentine and snuck out to buy each other presents. On Vday I started off making my girls heart shaped pancakes with smiley banana faces, then for lunch we sliced boiled beets and carved each piece into hearts. After, we walked to the main square where I bought my valentine a chocolate ice cream cone with…wait for it… a doughnut on top. Camera was dead but imagine an ice cream cone topped with a warm krispy kreme topped with fresh whipped cream and a cherry. It is just magical, and so was the look on her face!
