I had the opportunity to go to Machu Picchu, and as it happens we went on Easter Sunday!

Machu Picchu is both a group of mountains and ancient Incan ruins.

It was humbling and overwhelming to get to be in one of God’s most beautiful creations on Easter day. I couldn’t help but think about Jesus walking through the streets, carrying the cross, on the way to defeat sin and death once and for all. And as I looked out on the mountain and the ruins, his crucifixion so many years ago played out before my very eyes. (Sidenote: I’m aware Jesus wasn’t crucified at Machu Picchu, but never having seen ancient ruins before, I had before me a vivid picture of what Calvary could have looked like)

 “Crucify, crucify him!” (Luke 23:21)

“Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me.” (Luke 23:28)

“There was darkness over the whole land, while the sun’s light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. ‘Father into your hands I commit my spirit!’ And having said this, Jesus breathed his last.” (Luke 23:44-46)

“Certainly this man was innocent!” Hope is lost because the Messiah was dead. (Luke 23:47)

“And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, and the tomb was empty…’Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, BUT HAS RISEN.’” (Luke 24:2,5)

“Two were going to Emmaus and talking with each other about all that had happened. Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” (Luke 24:13-16

“‘The Lord has risen indeed!’ And Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, ‘Peace be to you!’” (Luke 24:36)

“‘As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’ And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit.’” (John 20:21-22)

Momma, Dad, Sarah, Liam, Austin, Skout- I love you and miss you so much. I’m praying that you all feel God’s goodness and love this month and that you will always look to Him for more. More life, more opportunities to serve Him, more of Him.
