Books, blogs, sermons, & podcasts galore. There are approximately 1001 resources to help you discover your love language and to serve others through theirs. If you haven’t heard of the five love languages, they are described in a book by Gary Chapman whom I believe first penned the concept.
The Five Love Languages
Quality Time
Words of Affirmation
Physical Touch
Acts of Service
Receiving Gifts
Most people feel most loved through two or three of these avenues. You can discover how yours rank by taking a free test online. Once you find out what gets the high score for you, ask your close friends and family about theirs. We spent time as a team discussing our love languages. After learning more about each other, my teammates have had a better understanding of how to love and serve everyone.
One night recently, I was spending some quality time with one of my teammates. We decided to pray together before heading to bed. The Lord told me that He loved the quality time I was spending with Him, and that got me thinking. What is God’s love language? How do I love Him best?
God doesn’t have a top two list when it comes to ways He feels most loved. He wants to receive love from us in all five ways. He wants quality time with us. He wants to hear words of affirmation. He wants us to give Him gifts. He wants our acts of service. He wants our embrace. Not only does He receive love in all of these ways, but He also gives love through each avenue. He pursues time with me. He gives encouragement. He gives gifts. He serves us. He wraps His arms around us.
We love because he first loved us. 1 John 4:19
