I’d like to share with you a quick update about life in Uganda.

I’m thankful we spent a few days in Kampala (the capital city of Uganda) for debrief before moving on to the next ministry. That gave me time to close the door on my time in Rwanda and open my heart to what God has planned in Uganda.

We arrived at our ministry site about 12hrs north of Kampala near the border with South Sudan on July 1st. We’re living at a base camp that serves one of the major refugee settlements where people displaced by tribal wars in South Sudan are resettled. Here we are sleeping in our tents and getting our meals from the lovely ladies who cook for us in the outdoor kitchen.

The organization we’re working with primarily serves adolescent women teaching health & hygiene and trade skills like sewing, soap making, baking, and gardening. They also provide counseling and discipleship and monitor the health and welfare of their beneficiaries.

We spent the first couple of days here visiting the intake center and some of the various camps and offices. This week, my team has partnered with the staff in a variety of ways. We help with data entry in the office, go out to the settlements for home visits and community activities. Somedays we play with children and other days we help with the cooking. We pray for people and share words of encouragement from the Bible. Every day looks different, but the Lord is teaching us to be flexible and to find opportunities to serve and encourage in unexpected places.

Everyone look!

Come and see the breathtaking wonders of our God.

For he brings both ruin and revival.
He’s the one who makes conflicts end throughout the earth,
breaking and burning every weapon of war.

Surrender your anxiety!
Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God.

I am the God above all the nations,
and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth.

Here he stands!
The Commander!
The mighty Lord of Angel Armies is on our side!

The God of Jacob fights for us!

Psalm 46:8-11

I have a few specific prayer requests for this month.

  1. Health– The nature of living in a camp setting provides extra opportunities for sickness due to sanitation, weather, and pests. Please pray for resilient bodies and protection from any bites or stings.
  2. Spiritual well-being– There is a lot of darkness here so prayers for spiritual protection as well as opportunities to shine bright the light within us are appreciated.
  3. Ministry– Please pray for their hearts to be open to receive the good news & love of Christ. I want open eyes to see people as He sees them, an open heart to love as He loves, and open hands to serve as He would.
  4. Travel– Because we are so far away from the capital city, it’s going to take us two days to meet back up with the squad at the end of the month before heading to Kenya. Pray that all the details fall into place as we plan the logistics for these upcoming travel days.

Thanks as always for your love and support!
