Welcome friends! Thanks for tuning in to another blog! This blog is all about the African Countries we will be visiting & ministering to. Africa has always been on the top of my list to visit for reasons such as Safaris, shark cage diving (sorry mom), and Table Mountain in South Africa. I have also heard story after story about the kindness of the people and can’t wait to share the gospel with them first hand and listen to their stories of how Jesus is working in their lives. I want to take a moment to thank all my sponsors so far for your generosity in making this dream of long-term missions and an overall incredible adventure come true. I can’t wait to share stories about Africa with you! If you haven’t had time to give yet, I encourage you to do so sooner than later. Although my blog doesn’t reflect it, I am close to 50% FUNDED! It’s my bold prayer to be fully funded by launch in early October.
Let’s get started –
LESOTHO!
Country Flag-
Geological Location-
Landlocked inside South Africa, the tiny nation of Lesotho has the 2nd highest AIDS rate in the world—right under its neighbor, Swaziland. Lesotho is 90% Christian and has one of the highest literacy rates in Africa. Despite the prevalence of Christianity and the availability of education, access to quality healthcare, travel, and educational resources is limited. About 40% of the population live below the poverty line, and children are often forced to work instead of going to school.
Population – 1,958,042
Currency – Lesotho Loti
Language – Sesotho
Religion –
Christian 80%
Indigenous beliefs 20%
Other facts –
Lesotho is the only country in the world entirely above 1,000 m
In area, Lesotho is slightly smaller than Maryland, U.S.
My prayer for Lesotho –
I pray the Lord would prepare our hearts as we are traveling to our 2nd continent together as a squad. I pray for the people of Africa that the Lord would be working in their hearts long before we get there. I pray for health as we travel and as we work. I pray for excellent communication with our ministry hosts, teammates, and good connection with our loved ones back home.
SWAZILAND!
Country Flag-
Geological Location – a Small landlocked country located on the border of South Africa and Mozambique
The small mountainous country of Swaziland has a dark secret: the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world. This pandemic has broken almost every family in Swaziland. Because of a promiscuous culture, the ancient tribal tradition of polygamy, and many myths about casual sex, 40% of Swazi children are orphaned. Words like “rape” and “abuse” can be found in elementary students’ workbooks. Mothers are often left widowed and with no means to support their hungry children, due to lack of education.
Population – 1,467,152
Currency – Swazi Lilangeni
Language – SiSwati & English
Religion –
Zionist 40%
Roman Catholic 20%
Muslim 10%
Other 30%
My prayer for Swaziland –
I pray for Peace as we near the halfway point of our race. I pray for good opportunities to worship and have rest in the presence of God. I pray for chains and bondage to be broken for the people of Swaziland and our squad.
SOUTH AFRICA!
Country Flag-
Geological Location-
Known for soccer, safaris, and shark diving, South Africa is the southernmost country in Africa. It’s a land of adventure. It’s also land of deep pain. Several decades since apartheid formally ended, South Africa still needs healing and reconciliation. Social injustice and racial prejudice are still rampant. Although they live in one of the wealthiest countries on the continent, most of the population outside of big cities are poor. And like the rest of sub-Saharan Africa, this country struggles with a high rate of AIDS/HIV.
Population – 54,841,552
Currency – South African Rand
Language – isiZulu, Afrikaans, and English
Religion –
Protestant 73%
Catholic 7%
None 15%
Muslim 2%
Other 3%
Other facts –
Table Mountain, one of the iconic landmarks of South Africa, is one of the oldest mountains in the world.
My prayer for South Africa –
I pray for reconciliation in South Africa. I pray that we can be a light in the brokenness, that the words we speak to people would be from God.
