I feel so used….I have bugs living in my hair and they haven’t paid their rent! They are dirty little blood suckers who use me for my blood! They have ignored my eviction notices and my constant demands that they go away. They are itchy and rude little things that are just plain mean I tell you! Worst inhabitants yet!!!! But I guess I’m providing homes for the homeless there’s that at least

Soooo I have super duper awesome news! I have lice dun dun dun daaaaaaaa!!!!! My entire team and the other team working with us at new hope has caught the bug….literally. We knew from the beginning that lice was a big possibility that could happen since pretty much all the kids at new hope school has lice. So our motto was this: I’d rather get lice and show these kids the love of Jesus by loving on them than not getting lice by avoiding touching the kids as much and not loving them well. So lice is my friend since of yesterday when we found a couple of little eggies in my hair. I ended up with coconut saturated hair that was tied up in a purple plastic bag…..and I rocked that look dang it! Fifteen hours later I finally got to wash out the oil……it took 4 showers…..but my hair is nice and soft! All the girls at ministry ended up in the same boat as me……coconut saturated hair tied up with a cute purple plastic bag to wear for 15 hours haha!

So also before you guys say ewwwww and groossss I want to dispel that because lice is something that happens everyday and you don’t get it because your dirty or gross. You simply get it because you came into head to head contact with another person who has it. In fact, lice like clean hair the most because there isn’t nearly as much natural oil that our hair produces which will make it hard for them to maneuver through our head. So I want you to not think that the person is gross or they don’t clean themselves enough because it isn’t true.  These kids are clean as a whistle everyday but most of them have lice.

If you hear that someone you know has lice, don’t freak out or shun them until it’s gone because that hurts them more than the lice itself. My squad of girls has come together to fight off these lice infestations. There are 16 girls including myself who are infected and those who are not infected are happy to help lice comb and pick out bugs and eggs because these women are amazing. So if my squad of girls can band together to help those in need of fighting pesky little buggies then whose to say you can’t as well.

God had also taught me that his path isn’t always going to be easy, like getting lice and scratching my head every hour….not fun, but it is always rewarding because loving these kids who probably don’t get attention at home because it’s grandparents watching them and they are too tired to deal with a rambunctious kid or their parents are not home during the day because they are working all day.

So was getting lice fun?
Nope not at all.

But was it worth it?
Absolutely would get lice again if it meant loving these kids and showing them Jesus!
