World race travel day itinerary
This is what it looked like to travel from Belize to Honduras:
At 10am we met at the ferry dock to take the 1030 ferry back to Belize City.
We arrived to Belize City at 1145.
We were told we would be there until 4, so we had a few hours to walk around the city to get lunch while we waited on the bus.
We then found out there was a mixup with the bus and now had an hour to get luck and be back by 130 because the bus would be picking us up between 130/2
At 230 we found out the bus was picking us up at a different location and we had to walk very quickly through belize city a few minutes to get to where the bus was parked.
We had a 3 hour bus ride then to the border of Guatemala. This first bus was your typical charter bus. Quite nice actually.
We then had to cross the border: go through customs, pay the fees and get our passports stamped. We arrived at 530 and got on our next bus by 645. We then drove 15 min down the road to stop for a quick dinner/ bathroom break and left by 730.
We drove through the night on a school bus (but thank the Lord it had ac, and chairs you’d find on a charter bus), and we got to the Honduras border at 2:30am. Then we found out the border was closed until 6am. Along with the bathrooms, and at this point we have not stopped in 7 hours, so we all had to pop a squat in a field behind where all the busses were parked. Talk about eventful. LOL we need more girl-scout training! We then just napped in the park bus until 6.
We got to the border and went through the same process of paying fees, and getting our passport stamped. We left here at 7am.
We got back on the same bus and drove another 3.5 hours, and stopped at a mall at 1045am (which looked very American except no-one could speak out language) so we stopped for breakfast/lunch for an hour. Ordering was interesting since more than half the group couldn’t read/ speak spanish and the workers knew no english!
we drove another hour and stopped for one more final bathroom break. We left there by 1, and then met up with our host who showed the bus where to park. We got off the bus at 4 and loaded the bus which took all of 15 minutes and then walked 10 minutes down the street to the host house and officially arrived at 4:25!
10am Monday November 5—> 430pm Tuesday November 6= 30.5 hours later; 15 of them on a bus!
