Ministry this month has been such a joy. DCM (Dublin Christian Missions) is made up of about 3 or 4 different campuses, each for a specific need. One of the campuses we are working at is the main headquarters which is used for ministering to families in the vacinity, which Leisel is in charge of. Our job there has been cleaning and planning some of the kids program for the week long family camp that we’re helping out with. Family camp starts up this coming week and I can’t wait for it to begin. I’m not quite sure what the name of the place we’re going to is but its about an hour outside of Dublin. We will be sleeping in tents so hopefully we don’t float away in the rain!
The Lighthouse is the other campus that we’re working at and it is solely for homeless ministry. Our days at the Lighthouse have consisted of sorting out clothes that were donated, scrubbing the place from top to bottom, making sandwhiches, serving food and talking with the people that come in. It is such a fun environment to work in. Roshawn, our other contact who runs the Lighthouse, and all the volunteers their are wonderful people who laugh, joke around, love God and love others.
Downstairs there are 2 rooms full of donated clothing, it’s like a thrift store down there! It amazes me how generous people here are. Seriously, every day I’ve been at the Lighthouse, atleast one bag of clothes has been dropped off and most of the stuff is in really good condition. 90% of the people who go there for food and clothing are men because the government has a better plan for homeless women. Due to the shortage of women the clothing keeps piling up so Roshawn said that we could borrow clothes and shoes. God has really blessed us in this because we have been able to dress warmly for free! We didn’t have to go and buy a bunch of warm clothes that we’d have to get rid of at the end of the month. Downside to the situation- in less than a month we’ll be in africa and back to wearing almost the same thing every day.. it’s worth it 🙂
