Cambodia has been an incredible month. During our time here I’ve experienced all kinds of joy. The joy that comes from spending time with my Daddy, new patterns of thought, future plans, being absolutely ridiculous, and laying down my fear of man in order to tell people about how Jesus changed my life or just to help someone realize special they are.
Before our month is over I want to share a few of my favorite memories with you:
Saying Bopa in a Cambodian accent. At the most random occasions and over and over until we can’t anymore because we’re laughing too hard.
Having one of our English students come up to the front to answer a question and have them get it right.
Hearing my girls tell me they miss me after we’ve just finished English class.
One day before class when Minea pulled me away from scratching Jess’ back to go outside on the porch. Then wanting me to take pictures with them, which quickly turned into a dance party. We sang Justin Beiber and listened to Cambodian music while I copied every dance move that Somphors did. Laughing ridiculously we realized that we had an audience, people in the restaurant next door but we didn’t care and kept going. So we kept on dancing like no one was watching yet fully aware that they were.
When Srey Leak told me that she thought I was 16 or 17 and then explained to me that the next day when she told Panni, she didn’t believe me either and thought I was 15!
Being ridiculous with Bopa and having it end akwardly.
Playing football, being goalie with Andrea while goofing off and then getting hit in the stomach with the ball, when I’m completely unaware. And then pretending I was in the scene from She’s the Man.
Having Srey Leak come up to me and say, “I’ve always wanted an older sister and then when I saw you, I wanted you to be mine.” Then later when she told Panni that I was her older sister Panni said “same.”
Being taught khmer by some of the girls and then trying to pronounce it while they exploded with laughter.
Goofing around with Bazooka
Watching Andrea sit in the tuk tuk with a huge grin on her face, waving to everyone in sight.
Doing our team’s two hours of the squad 24 hour prayer together and feeling the presence of the Lord surround us.
My team singing “Oh Holy Night” to me during my feedback.
Making and eating pancakes with yogurt and orange juice.
Waking up and only wanting to spend time with God, knowing it’s gonna be the best part of my day.
Playing peek-a-boo with the cutest little girl on the street while Andrea and Sally ate a spider and drank snake blood.
Realizing I don’t mind looking ridiculous if it makes one of the people I love happy
