I know this is a little late, but I wanted to share anyway…Welcome to Guatemala!

So, this month, we are working with GO! Ministries Guatemala.

This month is also all squad month…which means I’m living and doing ministry with 29 other people! I am loving every second of it!! The bonding, the food, the card games, the 24/7 community… This month has felt like a big family reunion, and I’ve just enjoyed having so many people around. It’s been a joy to get to know the other people on my squad so much better.

So, what does ministry look like? There is something different for each day! 🙂

One of our main ministries is widow ministry. With 80+ widows here and 80+ widows in a nearby village, we get to do a lot of visiting! Whether we go door to door or we are able to set up a gathering for any widows that come, it’s so awesome to see how God uses them to bless us when we come out to bless them. These women are such strong and courageous women.

We get to participate in a feeding program throughout the week as well, so we get to serve breakfast and visit with the children in 2 local schools a few days each week. It has been great to see how the children at the schools have opened up to us over such a short time!

The ministry I have come to really love is going to a small village to play with the kids! We are the first Americans that have have been to the village, so our first visit was slow…but after joining in a game of soccer and hanging out with the kids during their break, doors began to open. We aren’t doing widow ministry in this village yet, but I believe German is working on it–maybe future groups will get to! Right now our ministry is the kids…which I LOVE! We made our second visit to the village earlier this weekend, and it was just so awesome to see how open they were when we first drove up. They were at break, so we started out playing soccer, climbing trees, playing tag, playing with the little kids.. It was SO fun, and I’m pretty sure I had a smile on my face the entire time! After we got done playing with them, we went to the school and had about 15 minutes to spend in a classroom with some of the kids. This time was spent singing songs, teaching English, and giving each child a toothbrush. I’m really hoping for and looking forward to a future visit sometime in the next week!

This month has just been really great! I can’t believe we’ll be leaving in a week and a half. Time is FLYING!

With love,
Ash
