If you know me, you know that I am not a person who is into a whole lot of “stuff.” I LOVE to throw things away, be organized and etc. If you have known me recently you may have heard me complain about things and say things like “what a waste… you know how many kids you could feed with that _____. I do apologize to all I have thrown that at… its not really my place to judge (and oh I am the first one to get defensive and tell people they can’t tell me how to spend my hard earned money!) However I do feel strongly about “crap.” People know I don’t wear make up becuase I think its a waste of time and money, same reason why I pretty much live in white T’s, do a terrible job at “accesorizing” and drink my coffee black, I just don’t get the point of extra stuff.
I am reading the book Radical by David Platt. It is awesome. I feel like this guy read my mind and put it on paper. He talks about America’s “mega” churches (and churches in general) and how people across the nations secretly meet in a gross dirty basement somewhere to do the same thing. As we are concerned with getting the latest projection screen and the biggest stained glass windows these people are still worshiping the same God with just the shirt on thier back. AMEN, I can’t help but feel like (ok I can’t think of a word) when I am sitting in a church that has beautiful decorations, running water and padded charis that Jesus said “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Luke 18:22. There are millions and millions of God’s precious and beauiful people in this world that have NOTHING. It is so hard for me to focus on God in church sometimes when all I can think about is how many starving children the worship speakers could feed.
Alot of people have been asking me “why are you going?” When I say to them because in the bible Jesus told me to, as well as all of his people, they don’t really believe me. Really? Well what about in Matthew 28 when He says“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…” We all listen to the bible when its says to not steal or murder, or that in order to have eternal life we need Jesus, so why would we not follow this order, or the ones about selling all we own and giving to the poor? What about religion not being about hail marys or teaching Sunday school once a week, but its about taking care of the widows and orphans? (James 1:27)
