Hey! We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip…. so here is my story!

I guess it all started the summer before my freshman year of high school. I went on a short mission trip to the Bahamas with my youth group and it completely opened my eyes to the idea of missions. I loved that trip and from then on I was very interested in missions and traveling. I loved the idea of being a missionary… it just never occured to me that missions was something I could actually do. When I went to college I had dreams of making money… being able to have a career and support myself as a woman… I was all about being independent. I chose to go into pharmacy mostly because of the money. God had different plans for me…

I spent the first 3 years of college pursuing a degree that would get me into pharmacy school. Unfortunately, when I first applied I didn’t end up getting in. I remember the night very clearly that my heart was changed. I was helping with the youth group back in my home town on Wednesday nights. One night there was a missions night that we all went to. I remember sitting in the service feeling that tug on my heart. At first I tried to ignore it. But then it dawned on me…. Why couldn’t I be a missionary? God told me that night to follow Him into the mission field… I knew that it was the only thing that could ever really fulfill me.

So I ended up changing my major to religious studies… it was a huge change! For the first time I was trusting God with my future, which was pretty scary. I ended up going to Cameroon, Africa with Campus Crusade for Christ for a month on summer project. That’s when I knew for sure that I had made the right decision and that trusting God would never disappoint me. That summer changed my life! At another conference for Campus Crusade I ended up committing the year after I graduated to serve the Lord in missions. That’s when I found out about the world race. I actually saw that one of my friends on facebook was going… he had posted a link to the website on his status, so I clicked on it. I immediately applied and was soon accepted! I had been planning on going on the race in January. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to graduate until May so I just moved to the July trip. I’m soooo excited to see what God has in store. I know it’s going to be an amazing adventure!!!!
