Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

After dinner is my favorite time of day. This is the time when we get to hang out with the girls. Usually we play games like Uno, jump rope, or some hand slapping game they created themselves. The other night one of the girls came up to me and read her recent homework. It was a paper filled with english sentences she wrote about herself. It told about where she lives, how many siblings she has, her favorite sport. The final sentence was “I is a happy girl” in great english, of course. The interesting thing was, I was thinking what she actually had to be happy about.

This girl eats rice for every meal. She sleeps in a room with about 30 other girls. And she was taken out of her own home at a young age, because she was at high risk for being trafficked into the sex trade industry here in Thailand.

It is easy for all of us to get stuck in the bad, troubling areas of life. But thankfully we have God to turn things around. That might be the beginning of her story, but it is not the end. She was literally rescued from her home so that she may have the opportunity to be surrounded by other girls, as her new sisters. She lives in a Christian home with the love of Jesus Christ always surrounding her, which is very different from the Buddhist ways she was used to. She is served a nutritious meal three times a day. She gets to eat three times a day, which is also a big change from what she was used to. She gets to go to school and recieve and education so that she may learn a trade to have a real career for the rest of her life.

James 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Human Trafficking is no longer a far off, imaginary thing for me. It is real. I live amongst it now. It is everywhere I look. It is real. Thankfully there are some Christian Organizations, like Remember Nhu, to help with the prevention. There are also centers dedicated to the intervention with the girls and helping them get out of it after they have already lived it. But these girls here in the children’s home have had God’s protecting hand holding them all their lives by saving them before anything like that happened to them. However, not all girls are that lucky. Poverty and desperation lead people to do some crazy things. About ONE MILLION girls are trafficked each year. One Million.

Just by your prayerful and financial support of me on this race, you have had a part in stopping Human Trafficking. All the work I am currently doing was only possible through your help. While sometimes to me it might seem like I am doing so little, I know that I am doing God’s Will and holding his precious children tightly, wrapping them in love and empowering them with strength and courage.

In the words of the United Pursuit Band, open eyes melt hearts. By reading this, you are becoming aware of the devastating struggle that the young girls face every day. These girls are God’s precious children, much like you and your children back in the United States. We are all little children in the eyes of the Lord and we have the responsiblity and obligation to help our brothers and sisters, orphans and widows of the world, in anyway possible.

Here is the website for the ministry I am currently partnering with. There are two avenues for helping with this epidempic: prevention and intervention. Remember Nhu is a prevention organization focusing on rescuing the “at risk” girls before it becomes too late. When asking about the difficulty of converting the girls from their Buddhist backgrounds to Christianity, one of the founders of Remember Nhu put it like this: “Agape love. If all Christians showed everyone agape love, then we would all be Christian.” How are you going to show that agape love today???
