One of my favorite Christmas acitivites is going Christmas Caroling. I love singing, and just the amount of joy people get from you going up to their house and singing them a loving Christmas song…it is a really special experience.
So the other day, we decide to create that experience here in Guabito, Panama. [Well, technically in Sixaola, Costa Rica. This month we are living in Guabito, Panama, doing ministry in Changuinola, Panama, and then we helped put on a few services and tile the floor in a new church in Sixaola, Costa Rica. We are right on the border of these countries and let me just say, my passport is quickly being filled.] Brooks got out his guitar and we practiced a couple of songs. We wanted them to be upbeat since we were doing this at ten in the morning, and yet we all needed to know all of the words. We decided on Angels We Have Heard on High, Jingle Bells, Joy to the World and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.
Talk about some great tunes. That really helped me get into the Christmas Spirit. There is a simplicity here about Christmas. Well, maybe it is just for us racers, but I feel it. Even though those people had no idea what we were singing, they smiled anyway. And the Holy Spirit truly does speak through languages. The culture here is different since I am in a totally different area, but Christmas is the same. It was a beautiful gift given to the whole wide world: Jesus Christ. I did say Feliz Navidad…and everyone knows what that means, so somehow our point got across.
I am so grateful to have a Father in Heaven who loves me so much as to send His only son so that I may have freedom and eternal life. WOW. Now that is what I call love.
This Chistmas, let us all of Heaven and Nature sing of the love of God. The simplistic love of Christ. Amen.
