A long, anticipated wait! The colorful culture of India has always sparked an interest in me. I couldn’t wait to experience it first-hand. To my surprise, it was a lot different than what I expected. Mostly out of our own safety, our contact advised us women not to make eye contact or smile at men.  What seems polite in American culture is viewed differently in the eastern world.  Their view of westerners comes from what they see in Hollywood movies; which, sadly enough, are full of sex, drugs, and promiscuity. Besides this minor adherence, ministry was a lot of fun. This month we worked with multiple organizations. I had the opportunity to teach English at a trade school, visit and talk with women who were taken out of sex trafficking, helped in a kitchen at an HIV hospital, made home visits to pray for and encourage families, and also visited a home for people who were taken off the streets after living part or most of their lives without a place to call home.
