With the holidays finally upon us, I've been involuntairly thinking alot about the things that I will miss while I'm gone. Some of them are big things, some of them are more comforts of home types of things, but none the less, here is my list:

1. Christmas. Christmas in my family is a huge ordeal, full of traditions and family time, and I still have not fully come to terms with the fact that I wont be around for it next year. I don't know that I will ever be fully okay with the fact that I'm missing Christmas time with my family, but its definitely fun to think about the possibility of spending christmas with little orphan children in Africa. (If i cant be in the states for Christmas, this is where I hope we will be!)

2. My friends and family.  This is the typical 'How am I going to survive a year with out my best friend and my family' rant that I'm sure is popular among racers, so you can skip over it if you want. I'm usually not the type to get home sick super easy, but for real, 331 days of not seeing my friends or my family. Thank you Jesus for Skype! I"m sure there will be a lot of rough times, but changing the lives of people in the countries where we are going will be so worth it!

3. My puppies.  We're getting two brand new baby puppies next week. I've only ever gone to my aunts house to play with them three times so far, and I am already in love. They are absolutely adorable, and after spending the next 9 months straight with them, I'm sure it will be a rough goodbye.

4. My bed. Self explanitory. I'm not a fan of sleeping on the floor, but whatever, its the World Race, and sleeping on the floor will be so worth it.

5. Carmel lattes, lasanga, and loaded baked potato soup. No where else makes carmel lattes the way that DD does. I'll survive, but it will definitely be my first purchase when I get back to the states! I'm addicted to my mom's lasanga, so that may be a small issue, and I'm considering packing a few bags of the freeze dried version of soup in my pack, just so I can get that little taste of home while I'm off in third world countries.

Thats it. That's what I'll miss. 331 days of no best friends, carmel lattes or puppy loving. Instead, I'll get 331 days of bringing people to jesus, rice and orphan baby loving.

two words:

WORTH IT
