For the month of January, I’m in Gisborne, New Zealand helping out at the

YMCA.
It’s summertime in NZ and all the kids are on holiday. So the YMCA has weekday sports programs to keep the kids busy in the mornings and afternoons. The program provides sports including rugby, soccer, volyball, kites, surf lessons, swimming, basketball, and traditional maori sports. There’s lunch, music and fun and its all for free!
So we help out, set up the equipment, and hang out with the kids.
It’s a sweet deal.
I don’t really have much skill with sports, not do I really care for them. But being that this was what we were doing for the next two and a half weeks, I decided to just jump in and go for it.
I’m still not the best at sports, but I’m actually having fun.
One day, coming back from Te Karaka, one of the towns the YMCA has the summer program, we were greeted and held up by these lovely creatures….(probably only fun the first time around)
