turkey as a whole was an entirely new and different experience for me. spiritually, culturally, socially. it was incredibly different than any other place i have ever been. during our time in turkey i learned a lot of new things and was able to have once in a life time experiences. i really enjoyed turkey and feel so blessed to have had time in such an amazing country. so, without further ado, here are some of my favorite turkish delights.

turkish baths

i didn’t actually get to experience a turkish bath. but according to mama c and pappy i would not recommend it.

bu sha ka

if you are not sure if your sarcasm is going to taken the right way always end your sentence with bu sha ka. which translates: “just kidding.”

road signs

on
our road trip for jesus, team oasis learned that in turkey all red road
signs are only suggestions. including stop signs and stop lights you
don’t actually have to follow any of the ‘suggestions.’ we also learned
that flashing hazard lights are all to necessary when driving with a
certain red-head from louisiana. mostly for situations including
backing up on the freeway and going around a round-about well, more
than once.

call to prayer
the call to prayer goes off five times every day in turkey. after the first few days you start to get used to it and just don’t notice it so much. we did learn that you can not go into tour a mosque during the call to prayer. but, if you ask nicely to go in and pray they will oblige. thank goodness they don’t ask who you are going to pray to.
eurasia
istanbul is half asian, half european. who knew?
IKEA
it’s the cheapest place to eat in town. also, not a bad place to meet incredibly influential people and potentially share the gospel with them.
thanksgiving
thanksgiving day was probably one of my favorite days on the race so far. we had the entire squad together at a wonderful church. the day was complete with baptisms, napping, and an amazing thanksgiving spread. turkey, however is not easily accessible in turkey. and with an incredibly small oven and fifty people to feed for we opted for the rotisserie chickens down the street. still, definitely a day for the books.
apple tea and baklava
enough said. they are delightful.
baby back ribs

when attempting to feel like a normal person and deciding to go to chilis for lunch, be sure and allow at least four hours total travel time and budget in money for three forms of transportation.

instant coffee

no matter how many three in one packets i possess i will always be ecstatic when i see a legitimate coffee maker. add in flavored creamer from america, mexican food, and national treasure with our new friend and i am basically in heaven.
