so you know how when the clock strikes 11:11 you are supposed to make a wish.  or for all of you holy people out there, say a prayer?  anyways.  there’s this idea that there is something significant, something special about the number eleven.  and when the clock graces us with two eleven’s at once we should notice.  we should stop and notice because it’s worth it.

did you know that the united nations has declared 2011 the international year of forests?  it’s also the international year of chemistry.  and rabbits.  the chinese people will be celebrating rabbits next year.  and i think all of these things are great.  they are exciting things that are worth celebrating for some people.  if forests are your thing, awesome.  there is now an entire year dedicated to acknowledging the creation the lord has given us.   i have friends who studied chemistry in school.  they are probably overjoyed about having an entire year dedicated to something they are passionate about.  and rabbits.  well, i am sure someone out there loves those little procreating fools.  i prefer mine to be made of chocolate.

all of that to say…

there is something special about the new year we are about to embark on in just a few weeks.

we each have something we are looking forward to about it.  that new job, graduation, a baby on the way.  maybe you’re a lucky soul who’s in a relationship and you just know that this next year will be defining and indicative of something that will last forever.  whatever you are enthusiastic about it’s good.  it’s good because it’s special to you.  it’s something you are passionate about and are willing to invest time and energy and resources into.  you’ll give yourself to something you believe in.  you’ll pour out blood, sweat and tears for something that has caught you.  inspired you.  changed you.  motivated and propelled you.  you know, it’s the thing that keeps you up at night.  it makes you smile and it makes you cry.  it might be medicine, music, or business.  it just might be rabbits.

for me it’s the world.  its the hurting, dying, hungry, lost, hopeless, forgotten world.  it’s the prostitutes and orphans and homeless.  it’s peter and esther and lee.  it keeps me up at night, thinking about the needs in the world.  and there are moments when i cry about it.

and then.

then there are moments when i smile.  moments when i think about how there are over two-hundred world racers on the field right now, bringing kingdom to the darkest of places.  i smile when i hear stories about how we, as an organization, played a small but vital role in helping a woman escape the sex-trade.  i smile when i think about the five twenty-somethings preparing to go back kenya for two years and change a community of people who have been forgotten and displaced.

lately, i smile the most when i think about how thankful i am to be a part of it all.  and, okay, maybe sometimes i cry about it, too.

but here’s the deal.  i can’t keep doing this thing without you alongside of me.  i can’t keep walking out my passion each and every single day without your support.

would you please, please, please consider supporting me at least $11/month in 2011?

what is $11 really worth to you?  one meal out.  two trips to starbucks.  a trip to the movies.  a new cd.  a few apps on your iphone.  $11 doesn’t really mean a whole lot in our society.

but it means the world to me.  literally.  it means the world.

it means i get to help send people to the nations.  and those people get to bring hope to the hopeless.  they get to bring food to the hungry.  and most importantly they get to the bring the good news of jesus to people who have never heard it before.

i have a monthly support goal of $1,500 for the upcoming year.  and i need you to partner with me.

do you want to be a part of what the lord is doing around the world?  you can give here.  or click on the ‘support me’ link on the left hand side.  to make it easy for you we’ve set up an option so you can automatically give every month.  i promise, you will hardly notice the $11 being taken directly out of your bank account.

i am beyond grateful that i get to do this kingdom journey with you.  thank you for your love, encouragement, prayers, and financial support.  together we are changing the world.

questions?  please contact me.  i really would love to talk with you.
