On Saturday my team said goodbye to the
people of Panajachel and Lake Atitlan and began a six-hour bus ride to
Chiquimula with another team from our squad.
In Chiquimula, we met our ministry contact, Nancy Sheldon, who works for
Servant Ministries in the town of Camotan.
Camotan is located in southeast Guatemala in the mountains. The weather here is much warmer and drier
than in Panajachel. So much for hopes of
a perfect climate, haha! We arrived in Camotan safe and sound early in the afternoon (all our bags made it too, praise
God!). We are staying at the Servant
Ministries compound, which is a huge blessing.
I am beginning to learn to never take for granted having hot showers,
toilets that work, and beds to sleep on!
ministry we will be doing this month, and the answer is we will be doing many
different things. Some of the opportunities
for ministry here are working with orphans, delivering school supplies and food
to children in rural mountain villages, working on construction of a new
medical clinic, assisting in the current medical clinic, helping with local
reforestation projects, and door to door evangelism. As you can see, this is going to be a busy
month for us. I am so excited about the
diversity of activities we will be participating in and cannot wait to see what
God is going to do. I am praying and
believing that He will reveal Himself in a big way, not only to the people here
but also to me and my teammates. Here are some more pictures of Pinajachel and Camotan. Enjoy and God bless you!
