Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.”
– Matthew 9:37-38
These past three weeks, God has placed my team in the middle of a huge harvest field. That field is Vilanculos, a beautiful town located along the coast of the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. I have never before seen so many people who are hungry for God. God gave us opportunity after opportunity to share the Gospel with the people here, and many responded by giving their lives to Christ. Since coming here, we have helped lead over 200 people to Christ! God is definitely bringing His Kingdom to Vilanculos.
There are more ministry opportunities here than there are workers. My team went to the local hospital to pray for the sick, we entered the town prison and shared the Gospel with 120 men, we visited families at their homesteads, and we showed the movie Passion of the Christ several times around the city. God is bringing hope and healing to the patients at the hospital. My group prayed for one man named Ricardo, who had been paralyzed from the waist down by a stroke. He had been in the hospital for almost a month. One week after we prayed for him, he was able to walk with the aid of a walker! I am confident that God is going to completely heal Ricardo.
Over a period of two weeks, we were able to visit the local prison three times. On the first day, almost all of the 120 men in the prison placed their faith in Jesus Christ. By our third visit, they were singing and praising God at the top of their lungs. God’s light has pierced the darkness of prison and brought hope to the men and women there. They have found something that is truly worth living for.
God is also moving in powerful ways at our partner church – Jesus for Africa. People have come to Christ in almost every service that we held. One of my greatest joys was seeing ten people get baptized this past Sunday. After the morning church service, the whole congregation walked to the beach, where our newest members were baptized. We then enjoyed a picnic lunch and fellowship on the beach. It was hard to say goodbye to the wonderful people of the congregation. I pray that God continues to use this church to be a light in Vilanculos long after my team has left.
These past three weeks have been an incredible experience for me. God has moved in so many powerful ways. Once again I stand in awe of the awesome God that we serve.
