We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to the mission field. Here is my story…

Well the first thing that pops into my head when asked the question…”How
I was called to the Mission Field?”….I think…aren’t we all called to the
mission field? Whether it be in our hometown or overseas, as children
of God our lives are a mission field.

Yet, I believe my calling for the international field began with my
thirst for adventure and my desire to travel. My junior year in college
I studied abroad in Salamanca, Spain for a semester. Although I went
with my secular university and not a Christian organization, living in
Spain for those 3 1/2 months was my mission field. I first applied for
the program, excited at the thought that it would be my first time
outside of the United States. God had more in mind. I went there ready
to experience a new culture, but also knowing God divinely placed me
there to be a witness to my classmates.

After returning from Spain, my desire to travel to new lands
increased. When I graduated from James Madison University in December
of ’05, I did not have a job yet, and I wasn’t sure what my next step
would be. I prayed that God would lead me in the right direction, and
about 2 1/2 weeks later I was on a plane to Rio Viejo, Honduras where
for four months, I taught first year English to the 7th grade class at
the missionary school, Instituto El Rey (The King’s Institute). When I
first arrived in Honduras, the initial culture shock made me question
if I was even supposed to be there. However, during that first week God
revealed that I was exactly where He wanted me to be. Any nervousness I
had was completely erased, and I was overjoyed to do God’s work! My
time in Honduras was such a humble learning experience. I went to
Honduras not knowing anyone and having to completely rely on God for
everything.I was able to be quiet and get away from the normal hustle
and bustle of my life in the U.S, and be a servant to my students, the
other missionaries, and the community.

Fast forward a few years….Now I am about to embark on another
missions trip with the World Race. As excited as I am to travel to new
places, God has placed a true yearning upon my heart for those we will
encounter during our travels. I believe that God has not only placed
this desire to travel in my heart, but also to be a servant to others.
I know that wherever I go, whatever my mission field is, I know its not
about me, but the work of God through me. Oh to be used by God…mmmm
exciting!
