I forget that I am living in another country doing things not a lot of people would ever dream of doing! I have to remind myself that I am not at home and that I am in a completely different time zone as my friends and family!
One night I was listening to a song that I have heard multiple times while thinking about all the things that I have experienced already and how crazy my life is right now.
There’s a line in the song that says
“not a lot of people can say…”
I started laughing because of how perfect that sums up my life right now. I get to experience things that not a lot of people can say they have ever had a chance of doing or have only seen it in the movies.
So I decided to come up with my own list of “not a lot of people can say…”
That in less than 5 days, they traveled to 5 different countries, flown in 5 different airplanes, 3 different buses, and a taxi or two.
That they traveled 40 hours on a bus without having a bathroom on board.
That they get super excited when they hear they are going to be traveling on a 22 hour bus ride for the simple fact that they might be able to sleep for most of that ride.
That it is a normal feeling to not know what time it is, what day it is and what country you are currently in.
That they have three different currencies in their wallet/purse and not one of them you can use for the country you are currently in.
That they have to think about what language to say ‘hello’ in, so you can greet people you are meeting correctly.
That they have ridden on an elephant in the middle of the jungle
That they have bamboo rafted
That they have made s’mores from a campfire while in the mountains of Thailand.
That they have harvested rice.
That they fertilized palm trees in the middle of the jungle among the rats, snakes, spiders, leeches and who knows what else.
That they have mixed cement by hand on the sidewalk
That they experienced a hurricane while on an island
They have never known they could sweat so much without doing a single thing.
They went for a whole week without shower and have other people be super excited for them victory.
That the idea of taking a cold shower is nothing because that means you actually have water to shower with.
They got stitches in a foreign country from a doctor who didn’t speak English.
That they had a squad mates finish stitching you up after the doctor wasn’t able to do it.
That they have laughed so hard and so long that you have cried.
That they have formed a family from a group of people who less than a month before were complete strangers.
That after being robbed in the middle of the night, your house hold can laugh and joke about it with the group of people who you lived with days and even months later.
(And secretly you wouldn’t want anything about that month to change!)
That they have been to more church services where you have no idea what they are singing or saying because you don’t speak their language but KNOW that they love Jesus and that is all that matters!
That it is a normal occurrence to have to ‘perform’ during a church service.
That they know they should always have a sermon ready at all times…because you just never know.
They choose to leave home for 11 months.
They spend hours upon hours at REI trying on backpacks, tents, sleeping pads and other things you have no idea what it is or how to use them.
They purposely quit their job, sell their car and move back in with their parents to travel the world.
That they have no doubt in their mind that they will raise $15,500.
They have no idea what the future holds but ready to give it all up to God and having the time of their life.
