I realized that I have not had a really good attitude this month. Haiti has been a hard and I have had to make sure I stay in the moment here and not count down the days until we leave. God has been teaching me a lot in my own heart and in my own personal walk. And I am very thankful for that. So for this blog I want to list the things that I am thankful for while being in Haiti.
- I have an amazing support team back at home. I know that I have people back at home praying for me, fighting for me and sending their love my way. I love that people are back at home reading my blogs and keeping up with my updates. This month has made me miss home a lot. But every time I get on Facebook, I get to see pictures and see what people are doing and it fills me up.
- God has given me an amazing team to live life with. My trust in them has grown each day as we share our struggles and accomplishments. Each one of them has an amazing story and a true heart for God. They encourage me when I need lifting up and they see my heart!
- I am thankful for the church we are working with this month. This country has a lot of hate and confusion but when you walk into the church or when you are around one of the church members, you would never know it the struggles. Their love for God overflows and they are the lights in the darkness. They share our joys and burdens with us. They care for our well-being more than their own. They have grieved, yelled, praised and cried with us!
- I am thankful for what God has been teaching me. He has opened up wounds in my life that needed to be healed. He has taught me a lot about love. He has showed and told me that I am worth His love and my own love. That I am beautiful and deserve what He has to offer.
- I love the little kids here. Their smiles and hugs warm your heart every time you see them. They just want to play and sing silly songs. I wish we could all have child-like hearts.
- I am thankful for Feedback! (For those of you who do not know what feedback is…let me tell you. This is a time where as a team we sit down every night and share encouraging words and ways we can work on.) The space our team has created is safe and all out of love. Sometimes it is hard to get the feedback but most of the time I come out of our time more encouraged then I came into it.
- I am thankful for our balcony area on our house. Sitting there you feel a peace and a calming that you wouldn’t expect. We have a view of Haiti, the mountains and the ocean. At night you can see the stars and the storms coming over the mountains.
- I am thankful for chocolate. With everything that has happened this month, we have enjoyed binging on wonderful chocolate. It has been a bonding time with the team and brought a little piece of home here in Haiti.
- I am thankful for showers. With 14 people in the house we use a lot of water. So we have limited our water usage….which really means we get to shower ONCE a week! I use to take 2 showers a day and now I do a baby wipe shower every day and wash my hair once a week. So whenever I am able to shower I treasure it with all my heart.
- I am thankful for the little things. Having electricity all times during the day…not sweating every minute…being able to turn on the faucet and brush your teeth or take a drink…being able to walk down the stairs and not be scared you are going to fall down them…sleeping in silence….drinking a cold diet coke….washing clothes in a washer and dryer…petting a dog on the street….flushing toilet paper in the toilet…having windows.
