As a team we decided that before we did ministry each day, we would spend time worshipping and praying! Our goal was to hear what God wanted us to do and not what we wanted to do!
So it was our second or third day in Bucharest, Romania and we had just got done with our worship time! One of my teammates heard that we were supposed to FOLLOW the MUSIC! We took this as, we were to find the street musicians and go talk to them! It sounded fun and we knew that they usually hung around Oldtown Bucharest!
All 6 of us left together and started heading toward town. We really didn’t know where we were going but this was month 9 on the race! We knew how to get around strange and unknown cities! As long as we stayed in the direction we were walking we would be ok!
We weren’t even a block away from our hostel when this guy stopped us and said “hey you are girls speaking English…where are you from?” We told him that we were from America! He then continued saying “that is awesome! I am Andreas and I am from Sweden! We introduced ourselves and told him what we were doing! He replied “that is so cool. I am a MUSICIAN and my band is playing in Bucharest this weekend! We had a gig last night and the rest of the guys are sleeping but I have never been here before and I wanted to walk around the city! Can I walk with you girls!
Are you serious!? We all stood in shock and with silly grins on our faces! Did this really JUST happen!
For the rest of the day…we followed Andreas around the town! He had been in the city for a couple of days so he knew more of the town then we did! He showed us how to get around, where to get coffee and where he had played the night before! We even walked through a VW Car show and got to take pictures of the older cars!
We ended up sitting down and getting coffee! We shared more about the Race with him and he told us how he learned English and all the different bands he has been in! He never ignored the fact that we were missionaries but was very open to it! He even told us that he likes to share with each of his audiences’ bible verses! We had a great time!
We left that morning looking for ministry and the ministry found us! When God told us to FOLLOW THE MUSIC…we didn’t realize that we were going to literally follow the “music” all around Bucharest!
I think the whole team was on Cloud 9 that day! We realized that we actually heard from God and He provided us with an opportunity! Again we left the house with one idea and ended up with a different result. We could have said “following the music” was a stupid plan! We could have turned left instead of right! We could have thought that the idea of a strange man asking us where we were from was creepy and ignored him!
BUT we didn’t ignore God…we obeyed what He had told us! God is so good!
