Where we're sleeping this month
As I laid in my bed this morning, I found myself praying, thanking the Lord for the redemption He’s brought to this property. The building I sleep in with 30+ other members of my squad used to be a main club in this area. When you walk into the room where all of our tents and hammocks are set up, you can see the poles, dancing stages, and platforms where the lights use to sit – redemption. The Lord is furthering His Kingdom in this place. He has redeemed this building and the property around it. Praise the Lord!
This month we’re working at a boys home for street children called, Zion’s Gate. Tony is our contact and he’s from Utah. He came to Honduras as a recently redeemed soul to the Lord a little over 5 years ago. Here, the Lord broke His heart and called him back. Back to Honduras where he found his wife, and the purpose for his life – to love on the unlovable; boys misused and abused and abandoned.
There are 7 boys that live here now. And they range from ages 14 to 19. Each of their stories are heartbreaking. The sweet thing about them is that they too have been redeemed. Transformed from a life of darkness into a life of light with Christ.
This place is now a home, a place of refuge for the boys to come to find themselves and their identity in who they are and who Christ created them to be. Tony makes it clear that this “home” is not a hotel. The boys have responsibilities that they have to meet and tasks they have to complete. Many of them go to school throughout the day and in the afternoon and evenings they are around the property. A few of them speak English and have started participating in bible studies with our guys. The boys are very clingy and enjoy hugs and lots of love because it’s not something they’ve ever experienced before.
This month we’re also going into a home established by the government called INFA. Their mission is to serve teenaged street children, boys and girls. To provide them with a safe place to meet their physical needs. Our job is to go in a meet their emotional, spiritual, and relational needs. On Fridays we’ll be invading a street corner with signs and cards that say things like “honk if you love Jesus” or “we’re here for you if you need prayer”. As corny as that sounds, we trust the Lord to move and work in the hearts of those that will be passing by. On Saturdays we’ll be going into a colony that hasn’t had North Americans in their community before to rally them together for some soccer, presenting the gospel, and other fun activities. On Monday-Wednesday everyone’s ministry will look different. The different tasks range from teaching in schools with a very passionate man, Pastor Hermando, that we’ve met, working with another pastor, and working around the property with Tony and teaching English with him.
I am SO excited about this month! One of my squad mates spoke a very moving word over our squad this morning. She said, “the heart of a man is harder to change than his physical body”. Amen. It is my hope this month that God will be the one that changes hearts and that I will be the vessel and mouthpiece that He uses to communicate His truth. I still trust Him to fulfill His promise of witnessing a committed life to Himself.
God redeemed this building and turned it into a sanctuary and refuge for these boys and many other boys that shall come in the future. He is also capable of redeeming and restoring the lives of those we come in contact with.
Thank you so much for all your prayers and support!
