When you sign up for the World Race, you agree to a lot of things – one of those things being change. Change is a word we use often. Our hearts are changing, our experiences are changing, and most recently our teams are changing.
This past week the entirety of our squad met at “The Team House” in a beautiful location on Nordhoek Beach in Cape Town, South Africa. We gathered to debrief the month and simply relax. We all came onto this race knowing that after month 3, there was a potential for teams to change. Many squad members feel a lot of hesitation and uneasiness during this time because we’ve all in some ways grown attached to the people we’re on teams with. Personally, I began praying for this change at the beginning of South Africa. I asked the Lord daily to prepare my heart and to simply give me peace, may His will be done.
The Lord had already taken me though some huge stuff this past month. Along with processing through my identity, it became clear, as I mentioned two blogs ago, that the Lord was taking me into a new season. A new season of abandonment and freedom. A season of receiving. And in this new season, comes a lot of change.
I am no longer a team leader. The Lord has showered a lot of grace over my heart in this process but I am so thankful for the peace that I feel in this new transition. In reality, I can see how the Lord was preparing my heart to endure the shift from team leader to team member, and for this I am thankful. I am thankful that for the next 8 months, my race will look different. The Lord called me to the race to serve, and now I am fully able to live out that calling!
In this new season I am a part of a new team – Team 220, from Galatians 2:20 which says, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”. The words “refresh” and “new” came to our team as we we’re deciding on a team name, and this verse seemed to fit perfectly into our vision.
I am excited to begin the next leg of my race with these awesome men and women of God: Kevin Vander Wal (Team Leader), Chris Britton, Amanda Britton, Charlene Geddes, Kip Deaton, and Tim Eisaman. Check out their blogs if you have a chance. :]
We’ll begin this month is Beira, Mozambique at an orphanage, “Kadesh” meaning sanctuary, for boys ages 9-18. I am SO excited for this new season of my life and all the changes that will continue to occur!
