Well, friends, we have officially met the halfway point of
the World Race. It’s crazy how time has flown by, yet it feels like we’ve been
gone forever. Time gets skewed when you are away from home and routines. Here
is a little idea of what has become “normal” to me over the past 5 ½ months…
- Showering
involves a bucket of water on a stool and a cup/water bottle - What’s
a toilet? I get to squat over a 20 foot hole in the ground - I’ve
worn the exact same outfit 4 times in one week - The
nicest thing I’ve worn since leaving the states is an African dress (worn
to a wedding) that looked more like my great-great-great-great-great
grandma’s curtains. - Eating
french fries, pasta, rice, and cabbage twice a day is not uncommon.
Actually it happens every day. - Tea,
coffee, or hot chocolate is consumed at least three times a day…made with
milk straight from the cow - Garbage
can? No thanks, I throw it in the yard. - I can
brush my teeth and wash my face with only half a bottle of water - I can
look out any window and see the beautiful, God breathed rolling hills of Rwanda - Every
time we walk into the church service (which we are always late and church
is every day) we are greeted with music, loud cheers, and clapping - Door-to-door
ministry has now become tree-to-tree ministry - Preaching
is no longer as scary as before - Talking
openly about bodily functions with my team is not uncomfortable - Mirror?
No thanks, I have the webcam on my teammate’s computer. - Well,
mom, I’ve officially been broken from my daily morning showers. Once or
twice. Three and four times are luxuries!
Life is so good. God is so good. He’s been taking care of
me, my team, and my squad.
