We just finished our first debrief session of the race.
After our second month in Malaysia
our whole squad of 40 people gathered in Bangkok
for a time of worship, rest, and rejuvenation. I didn’t realize how much I
needed this time. Ministry has been going great but as typical Americans we
only hear of all the glitz and glamour of being a missionary. So often we hear
about all the people being saved or how the blind now see or how many houses
were built. You don’t hear about the rejection, the pain, the oppressed, the
tiredness, etc.

 I’m so glad the World
Raced has factored in time where we can gather as missionaries and share
stories of laughter and tears. I, personally, got to make new friends and get
to know my squadmates better. One day a few of us went to a park about 15 minutes
away from where we are staying. That was so refreshing. After two months of
being in a big city and knowing that this month was going to be spent in one, I
was really missing my good ole country roots. The greenness of life in northern
Michigan and
at GVSU. I got that as I walked around the park and got to take in God’s
creation. That day I really appreciated my home roots and I cannot thank God
enough for huge parks in big cities as a refuge from the busyness of life these
days.
