I could have stayed home. I could have spent every morning worshipping God from my room and every night praying to Him from the same spot. I could have loved people without leaving America. I could have loved God without leaving the states. I could pray for people from afar, read my Bible alone, and just be safe.

But I was called higher than that.

If I'm going to be honest, and I think I've become pretty good at that, then I should admit that reading the Bible is not something I did before the Race. I couldn't remember simple stories from childhood Sunday school, let alone tell you who healed who or prophesied what about which place. I heard stories in passing about miracles and gifts, people giving up everything because God told them to and never gave any of it a second thought. It was just something I said, "Sweet, but that's not really applicable to my life, is it?"

But here lately God has had me digging deeper into the lives of the apostles. And with every story I read He is there whispering in my ear, "These are not fairy-tales, sweetie. This is truth. This is how my followers live."

Okay, hold up for a sec, Dad…People seriously did this stuff?? Like, raised people from the dead, healed the sick, and rejoiced in being beaten? And you expect me to do that too? I mean, come on, that sounds a little batty, don't cha think??

I believe what the Bible says. I believe that the Word is true and that I should live by it. So why have I been looking at the stories, especially the lives of the apostles, as fairytales and dreams far out of reach in today's world?

Peter and John were arrested for preaching healing in the name of Jesus, and when commanded to stop they made sure everyone understood that man was not going to stop them from obeying God. (Acts 4:19-20)

Paul raised people from the dead, clothes that he simply touched were taken to the sick and possessed and used for healing. (Acts 19:11-12)

Peter and the apostels rejoiced for suffering in the name of Jesus when they were beaten for preaching. (Acts 5:41-42)

Stephen used his dying words to ask God to forgive the murderers who were stoning him. (Acts 7:60)

These were not some strictly trained men in the art of healing and living righteously. These were regular, most of them uneducated, dudes that hung out with Jesus a few years and were filled with the Holy Spirit. Yep, that seems like some pretty easy qualifications in order to live out a Christ-like life…so why the heck are we not following suit here people??

These aren't just stories put into the Bible, they are REAL! More than real, they are realistic! Realistic goals, realistic standards for which to live our lives on..in fact..we can do MORE! (John 14:12)

So I dont know about you, but I want to wake up in the morning believing that God could use my hands to heal the sick or help the blind see, and actually expect it to happen!

I want to rejoice in ridicule for being a believer and follower of Christ.

I want to stand up to the people that dont like what they're hearing and say, "Listen, I'm created to preach the gospel and I'm going to do it, dang it!"

I want to see visions and prophesy. I want to be like Paul and Peter and John.

I want to go all in with the life God has for me, not just sit back, be safe and think that that's enough.

He called me higher than that.
