I got another serving story for ya…
The story is from this past Sunday. One of my first tables.
The table is a husband, wife and son. I took their order and after I got it, this conversation ensued:
Man: “Where are you from?”
Me: “I was born in Maine.”
“Ah, so you like lobster”
“Actually, I hate seafood :))”
“Okay, so what do you like?”
“Well… I like Food” – but then I thought I need to be more specific- “I like…. no, I LOVE ice cream!”
“What is your favorite ice cream?”
**At this point I’m thinking that he is just being a dad- you know what I mean- when our parents totally embarrass their kids- I honestly think that my dad TRIES or at least TRIED when we were younger to embarrass us- like it was a challenge. So, I’m feeling badly for this son because I feel his pain. (So, because of that, I’m trying to answer quickly and get out of there to spare the son. Don’t get me wrong though, I love talking, and I really enjoy talking to my tables.**
“I really like Brusters.” When I am asked what ice cream is my favorite, I normally answer Mint Chocolate Chip- but today I didn’t.
“What store do you go to?”
-Okay, now I know that he is just doing what my dad did. Poor son.- I was gonna answer that I go to Ingles and get whatever is on sale– I’m not picky– but then I realized he meant which Bruster’s store.
“I guess I go to the one on White Horse because I live across from Furman and that one is the closest.”
“Do you go to any other locations?”
“Uh, I go to Pehlam.”
“Oh, ok. That was our first store.” Big smiles all around. “We own Bruster’s”
Say Whaaaaaaa?
I want to take a second right now to say what a SMALL yet MEANINGFUL reminder of God’s love and care for me that was! I know that you are probably thinking- what in the world- how does she see God’s love from that encounter? He knows my discouragements and my loves. So He sent me a table closely related to one of my favorite things and encouragement from said table. MY God did that. MY God knows me PERSONALLY. I see that whole encounter as a KISS from GOD! I love GOD! He just makes me laugh sometimes. His care is so vast and deep for His children. He knows EACH of us personally and thoroughly.
Hilarious. :)) I thought that you all would enjoy that. Yes, they did give me coupons- which, a big THANK YOU to you guys :)).
What I wanted to talk about in this post though, is what Mrs. Brusters told me. We obviously talked more and if you know me- you know that if I talk to you more than two minutes- you know about The World Race. She said that that morning, at her church, the pastor was talking about when the PRESSURE IS ON, THAT IS WHEN YOU PRESS ON. I doubt that I remembered exactly the words she used, but that is the idea.
I know that I have talked a lot about opposition and being targets for Satan. This coming from her was just a reiteration. When we are doing God’s will, when God’s WORK is being done, Satan WILL oppose us. We will be put under pressure: discouragement, opposition, fear of failure. That is no time to stop. That just means it’s time to stand firmer in God’s will and work.
This was so very encouraging.
Christians are going to face opposition and pressure when doing the will/work of GOD. God has said as much. We are not supposed to be of this world- people are not going to love or even understand some things the Children of God do. But Christians need to remember that God is the one we are working for. It is not the approval of men that we need- it is God’s. So, I know firsthand that it is hard- but WHEN THE PRESSURE IS ON, THAT’S WHEN YOU PRESS ON!!
