People.
We are halfway into month four!
Three and a half months are completed in my 11 month journey.
One continent is over.
Completed.
Time is flyingg!!
LOCATION: This month, we are on the outskirts of the capital city, Kampla. My team is staying in a house. An actual house! We are in a house with a family! This is crazy. We are staying with the pastor and his family- plus a couple others- for the month. The month of CHRISTMAS! It’s our little home.
CONTACTS: Pastor Joseph is the pastor of Ambassadors of Life Church and his wife Beatrice, Mama B, is our beautiful mother this month. Really. She cooks and does our laundry. She tells us that we are her children. Pastor and Mama B have five children with one on the way. On a side note, Mama B is the most adorable pregnant woman ever! They stay at the house along with a couple nephews and another friend.
Every single person is so kind to us. They won’t let us do anything. We can’t clear the table of dishes. We can’t help make food. They always wash our shoes and don’t allow us to help. We can’t wash dishes or do our laundry. Something that I am really working on this month is just recieving. This is their culture. This is their way to serve us.
INTERNET: Internet here is hard to come by. It’s actually nice not having it at our fingertips, it makes for some good conversation within our team. No news is good news, although I’ll try to update when I can.
LIVING: Our team- the six Burning Joy girls- are staying in a ten by ten room this month. There are two triple decker bunk beds in the room. Nothing more. We stuffed items between our mattress and the wall to make a shelf. Most of us have all of our things on the twin mattress that we sleep on. It’s crazy to see how few things we actually need. Surprisingly, six of us in one room is no big deal at all. It’s actually pretty awesome!
MINISTRY: This month we are evangelizing in the community every day. That look like us gathering at the church, praying, and then walking out to different parts of the community and walking up to people and sharing the gospel. Ambassadors of Life church also has a lot of services that we are involved in. Whether that is ministering in song or in the word or even (for the Christmas service coming soon) ministering in drama.
This month has presented several new things:
? I got my hair braided like a true white American tourist- yes, I am embarrassed when I think about it
? I taught some women how to sing As The Deer
? We have had two birthday parties- complete with party hats
? I’ve made brownies- using a mix that my aunt Jan sent me (a big thank you)- over an open coal stove… they turned out pretty well, too
? I sang Christmas carols on top of a huge hill/mountain
? I preached the word of God to Africans
? I’ve had more Cokes than I can count
? I taught an African how to play chess
? I’ve taught and played numerous games of Uno
? We had a dance worship session in an African church
? I bought and passed out food to street kids in Africa
? We had a dance party in the rain
? I slept on concrete
? I rafted the Nile river!
? I slapped a monkey
? I took a puppy home off the side of the road- Simba is now the Burning Joy pet
? I participated in a talent show
? I taught lyrics to The Sound of Music
? We watched The Lion King in Africa!
? I experienced my first 4 1/2 hour church service
? The next week that service became and 8 hour conference
? I am attending a church so filled with the Spirit, it’s insane!
This month has been crazy awesome so far, God is doing so much!
Time is flying, I can’t believe that Christmas is in 9 days!
I’ll post more when I can!
