My mom has always been a hard worker. Especially when things weren't easy she sacrificed a lot to "make it work." So when she told us she was going back to school after all these years to be a nurse I knew she could do it. I knew it wouldn't be easy for her, gosh I was in my second year of collage at the time and it was hard enough for me, but it wasn't impossible.

Shortly after graduating high school my mom had me, life got busy and she never got the chance to go to college.

Years later, as my sisters and I were headed off to college, she thought she would try to tackle the same FAFSA process, long lines at the admissions office, and manage her way through class registration. No one in our family had ever graduated from college before so it was like we were all doing this college thing and figuring it out step by step.

Through all the late nights, the flashcards of thousands of scientific names I can't even pronounce, the Starbucks runs, and more stress than I can imagine on test day, she did it!! I'm so proud of her!!

My mom graduated with her degree in Nursing on June 6, 2012!!

Through it all she has taught me to never give up on pursuing what you want. That it is NEVER too late and we are NEVER too old to do something we set our mind to. Though a dream can look daunting a first but we just need to go after it step by step. Nothing is too big and too out of reach. That God will really give us the strength, wisdom and endurance to finish strong.

She has been an amazing example and encouragement to me. I'm so grateful for all the sacrifices she has made through the years. How she's showed me what it looks like to be a strong woman, a woman with ambition and determination.

Love,

ASH

P.S. Mom, I wish I could have been there to see you walk across that stage on graduation day like you've done for me but know I can't wait to see you shine in your new career! Love you!
